Golf Wood Covers - A Waste Of Money?
Golf can be an expensive game, and buying golf wood covers may seem only to add to the already high
expenses.
Once people have been bitten by the golfing bug and are hooked, they have no choice but to keep paying out to play.
Nothing wrong with that, but there are some expenses which are essential, and some which are not, and it is on the
non-essentials that you can save your money. So does the club cover fit the frivolous category?
No, that's the short answer.
I am always amazed at how many clubs are sold without a cover as a standard. This really is essential protection
for your clubs.
Because golf clubs stick out of the bag with the head first, they are exposed to all the elements - wind, sun,
rain, snow, etc. Wood heads are particularly vulnerable to this, as well as to knocks and scrapes against the heads
of your irons. Without protection, the wood head will start to get damaged right away. The speed of damage may vary
depending on the quality of the wood, but the fact of damage will be inevitable. You need to protect the head as
well as the shaft.
Using a plastic bag is not really an option, either for effectiveness or aesthetics. The club captain may not be
too impressed with you turning up on the first green with a load of plastic bags sticking out! More importantly,
the plastic bag quickly develops tears and holes and becomes worse than useless, as it lets water in but stops air
circulation so the wet head of the club cannot dry out. Result: more damage to the head of your wood than if you
didn't have a cover at all. Purpose designed head covers are the only successful option.
One of the reasons that golf is so addictive is because we always want to improve our game, and book after book
has been written on just how to do that. One inescapable fact that may take strokes off your round, is that if you
play the same golf round with better clubs, you will usually score lower. That's a fact because the more
sophisticated equipment has designs filtered down from the professionals, who want to gain any advantage they
can.
You have surely bought the best clubs that you could afford. So to safeguard your investment and avoid
unnecessary expense due to damage, be sure to protect your woods! Once they start to get damaged, their performance
will deteriorate, and so will your score.
On the women's tour you see all sorts of colorful and outrageous club covers. To many people this seems
excessive, but to others it seems fun, and let's not forget that golf is supposed to be fun! If Tiger Woods can
have a tiger design club cover, so can anyone else, and there are huge fun choices to pick from.
So, when you consider the importance of the wood to your game, and therefore its upkeep, it is clear that golf
wood covers are not a waste - they are essential!
